That question was raise by one of my regular readers. He said that, one of the reason he is yet to start a business is that most people he knows, frown at both small business and big business. Meaning that, business is a very dangerous stuff. I have answered his question a long time ago. But let us base our discussion today on this.

1 Kerosene business: This is one of the businesses you can start with at least #10,000. You don’t need to begin to wonder whether people will buy or not. I say this because people everywhere use kerosene, more than 90% of Nigerian use kerosene on a daily basis in their stoves and lambs. Are people using kerosene in your neighborhood? Even though I am not living in that neighborhood, I can say yes without fear. More people will even use it now because dry firewood’s are hard to get because of the rains. Why not visit a nearby filling station and get 50liters of kerosene. If you can go to NNPC filling station, better for you. Begin to sell in bottles. I am promising you that you will make good profit at the end. I spoke with 9 kerosene retailers before I wrote this article, and they assured me that I will never lost in this business.

We need customers to make money from our businesses. A business, is not a business, if it is not making you money. If you remember the definition of business, you will understand what I mean.

When you give a product to someone, or you render a service to someone, and the person gives you money at end, you have done what is called business. That was what you were taught. But what if all of the people you sold your product to, or you render services to, decided to stop coming to you, probably because they were not okay with your first product or services, will you say you are doing business? And what if the business cannot pay the shop rent at end of the year, will you say you are in business? Are you the one running the business or the business is the one running you?

A business, in the real sense of the word, is that business that is bringing you money for your shop rent, transport and savings. If you have people working for you in that business, the business should be able to pay those people. If your business is not doing these, then it is the business that is running you.

I was coming back from somewhere with my lovely wife 3 days ago, and we saw a working class lady, according to her, supplying crayfish to market women who will in turn sell it to end users. Let me tell you the very method she used. She tied the crayfish in waterproof, #50 each. And she will give out 14 raps at #500. I and my wife were just looking at how passionately this beautiful lady was doing this business. Before we finally left her, she had made supplies to 16 market women. We shall come back to her later.

Let me use this opportunity to say this; I think you should make up your mind today to start that business idea that has been in your mind for some time now. Yes, am talking to you. The opportunity is there for you to start, and besides, the more time you spend thinking about that business idea, the more likely it is that you will drop it.
