The name Ayodeji Mebope has become a name almost everybody in Lagos knows. Who was she? She was a wife and a primary school secretary, Corona primary school, where she worked for 9 years.  But is that why she has become a household name? No.

After working for corona for 9 years, she resigned. Why? She said “ I want to form a dance or play group”. So, to actualize that dream, she registered to be trained in one outfit, and the training was to last for 6 months. No doubt, Ayodeji took her training seriously. But something happened at end of the 6 months training. She said “ I was no longer interested in forming the play or dance group”. Why was that? She couldn’t point at anything.

She has a sister-in-law who happens to be a very busy career woman, and sometimes Ayodeji will visit her and do some cooking for her family. So, one day, this sister- in-law of hers visited Ayodeji’s home and was offered a plate of a very delicious moi moi. She so enjoyed it, to the point that she said “ moi moi has never tasted this good in my mouth”. Before leaving, she said to Ayodeji “ please come and prepare this type of  moi moi for me, I will pay you #1000, if it will taste as good as this”.

Ayodeji went and did what she know how to do best, moi moi preparation. Those who visited her sister-in-law that day enjoyed the moi moi, and before they left, some of them placed order. That to her at that point was the best business to start.

 The order she received opened a very wide door of opportunity for Ayodeji. Other for moi moi kept coming from every angle. Those who tasted it wanted to taste it again and again. At a point, she was making a turn over of between  #30,000-#40,000 monthly, doing what she love to do.

At this point she decided to take the business more seriously. So to make more money, she needs to increase the number of her customers. To increase her customer base, she went back to corona to advertise her moi moi. You remember corona, right? The primary school where she worked for 9 years. And the response was positive, the number of customers increased drastically, and profit increased also.

Other opportunity came her way as a result of being a very serious business woman. When united nation came to Nigeria to invest in women entrepreneurs with little or no business, Ayodeji was one of the 10,000 women who benefited. They were trained for 5 months on how to be a business woman, how to keep good records, and how to treat customers. It was while going through this training, that she got to know that she has very good communication skill.

After the 5 months training, she was now well equipped, she was like a bird ready to fly. She was now ready to run the business as a business. She opened a bank account, registered the business, and rented a place where she will be operating from. The business moved from one single product company {moi moi} to a full catering outfit, where catering for 2000 people was not a big deal.

Yes, from nothing, Ayodeji build a company-NO LEFT OVER NIGERIA PLC.   A 50million naira yearly company now. They take care of companies in Lagos including rigs.

She made money using her talent. What is your talent? What do you love to do? What you love to do can bring you money, you know? Basketmouth, I go die, A Y, and Bovi, all of this young men love to crack jokes. Are they making money from it? They are making millions of naira annually. Think about christiano Ronaldo. What does he love to do? Is he making money from it? Think about psquare. What do they love to do? Are they making money from it? All of this men we mentioned , are making millions of naira sometimes in dollars from doing what they love to do.

So I ask again, what do you love to do? Talking? To talk to a crowd of 10,000, learning annex paid Donald Trump 1million dollars in 2001. My friend Paul foe earns money from talking, fela Durotoye  is another person that is making a whole lot of money from talking, and his wife Tara Durotoye makes a lot from making people up. So you can make money from talking. Or you love to write? Design? Think creatively? Plan?  You can make money with all of this.

 You can start small and grow big. That's the lesson.
